GOING TO ISB,HYDERABAD.... :)

Hey ppl,
Don't worry I am not going to ISB as a Management student.

Recently ISB had organised a wordsworth contest at the national level where in winners who would be selected would be called to ISB for a 2 days 1 night trip to the coveted campus at Hyderabad all expenses paid.

Here I am sharing with you the essay that I had submitted in the contest. As a matter of fact only 2 Engineering students have been selected.The list would be given at the bottom.
My idea of sharing this is to encourage you people to participate in such things and look beyond the college learning. Some experiences are worth gaining. I hope you all understand.Participating in this contest has atleast vindicated my idea to be good with words thus if you too participate,it shall uncover your hidden talents.

Do high quality business schools provide nations with a competitive advantage?


The concept of schools imparting business education which is essentially learnt through variable experience is itself a revolutionary concept. Moreover the need of the corporate world that these schools fulfill and have been doing so for a couple of hundred years is amazing,not ignoring the fact that almost every country wih a proper functioning economy is very much focused on imparting business education through these schools.

India today is a rising nation economically.The economics of this country has undergone a sea change in the last decade or so.As the country progress towards its ancient status of being called ‘the ‘Golden Bird’ it has to face the upcoming complexity that would arise in today’s ways of doing business. As the world economy gets integrated like as if we were trading in a village,the concept though provokes a simplistic message is essentially a very complicated one behind this veil.Given the above mentioned facts the role of a business school becomes imperative so as to provide the necessary skills in this fast changing economic world. Business schools give the corporate a polished and finished gem which otherwise would take years to shine through the grinds of business experience. Also it prepares the cadre of business soldiers with the right dynamics to adjust swiftly in the overly volatile and changing economy. Not only that,the increased corporate and government sponsorship of projects in business schools suggest the important intellectual contribution that these schools give back in return. The Indian business scene ,which is very much dominated by family businesses have of sudden felt the tinge of shortened man power with an enterprising and entrepreneurial bent.Business schools, by making such a requisite curriculum can essentially fulfill this demand and have been doing so for a few years.India being a young player in this complicated world economy and thus for India to sustain its paced growth and to achieve a mammoth size,entrepreneurs who can deliver from the word ‘go’ are needed.Business schools not only help in educating such talents in its womb, but also teaching them the nitty gritty of business through case studies thus providing entrepreneurs with a manager’s bent of performance.

Business schools play a vital role by also providing requisite research and advisory services to pivotal bodies like the finance ministry and the planning commission. However of all the good endeavor that these schools take, a lot can be done especially with India as its focus.The economy of India is so regionally unbalanced that business school could help by taking initiatives keeping in focus the economically backward regions of the country.India being such a diverse country, if it would be possible that business education be brought to the grass root level so that MBAs who can work from that level are produced then I think nothing better could happen to India than this holistic growth pattern that it would follow rather progressing in such a way that the common Indian does not even feel the shine of the progress.

Thus Business Schools can play a vital role in changing the business scene of India and thus her economy for the better and the future.

Stay Hungry,Stay Foolish----Steve Jobs@Stanford 2005 MBA convocation ceremony

"You've Got To Find What You Love"

This is text of a speech by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar

Animation Studios, delivered on June 12, 2005 at Stanford University. I'm

sharing it here and hoping that few young souls might find it

enlightening... the video from youtube shall be added in the left side of the blog...keep reading...its pretty old but yes inspiring

“I am honoured to be with you today at your commencement from one of

the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth

be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I

want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three

stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed

around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So

why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed

college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She

felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so

everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his

wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that

they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a

call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy;

do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found

out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father

had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final

adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents

promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that

was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents'

savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't

see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no

idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was

spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I

decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty

scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever

made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes

that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked

interesting.

It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in

friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with,

and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one

good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what

I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be

priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in

the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every

drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and

didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class

to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about

varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about

what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically

subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten

years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all

came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first

computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that

single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces

or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it’s

likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped

out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal

computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of

course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in

college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect

them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow

connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny,

life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has

made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started

Apple in my parents’ garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10

years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion

company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest

creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And

then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well,

as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run

the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But

then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a

falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I

was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult

life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the

previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton

as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and

tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and

I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly

began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at

Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in

love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the

best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being

successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less

sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative

periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another

company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would

become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer

animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation

studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I

returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the

heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful

family together.

I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired

from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed

it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm

convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I

did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it

is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the

only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And

the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found

it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll

know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better

and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't

settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each

day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made

an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked

in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day

of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And

whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I

need to change something.

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever

encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost

everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment

or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only

what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best

way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You

are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the

morning, and it clearly showed a tumour on my pancreas. I didn't even

know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a

type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer

than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my

affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to

tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell

them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned

up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say

your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where

they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into

my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the

tumour. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when

they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying

because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is

curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now.

This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I

get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to

you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely

intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to

die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has

ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the

single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old

to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too

long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.

Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be

trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's

thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner

voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and

intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole

Earth Catalogue, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was

created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park,

and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960's,

before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with

typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in

paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and

overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalogue,

and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the

mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a

photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find

yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the

words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they

signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for

myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Movie Review: RACE:read it even if u have seen the movie


"Tum kabhi jeet nahi paaye kyonki tum mujhe hamesha harane ki sochte the,mein kabhi haara nahi kyonki mein hamesha jeetne ki sochta tha"
"You never won because you always thought of defeating me,I never lost because I always thought of winning"
This is the apt tagline for the movie race.......
Well it stars Saif Ali Khan,Akshay Khanna,Bipasha Basu,Katrina Kapoor,Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy. The movie is a delight and its great to see a mature product from Bollywood after such a long time. Its high time that Indian Cinema embraced realism and thus show its movies sticking to the reality.
Well the story goes on like this.Saif here is a successful businessman who has a younger brother which is played by Akshay Khanna......then there Kat as Saif's secretary and Bips as a successful model..... Anil (Bhalu dada)....tries to redo the 'jasoos karamchand' thing as Officer RD and Sameera as her half cracked yet sexy assistant. Saif plays a very hard souled business tycoon who never looses and yes he never misses the chance to teach his rivals a lesson if they don't follow the rule book and try defeating him using treacherous means.How he does it is worth watching in the film. Akshay on the other hand is his younger brother whom Saif loves alot and takes care of alot but on the other Akshay hates his elder brother and keeps intriguing as to when to destroy him. The fight between these two brothers is worth watching. Saif has been a winner through out his life since childhood. Akshay on the other hand has always been defeating by Saif since childhood,whether its sysle race or anything.Even their father gives his entire business to Saif leaving Akshay to be dependent on him.But the kindness and care of Saif is treated as alms by Akshay and he plots to kill him and take over the whole of business as well as the insurance money.

Now to tell the story further would be cheat you.
Its full of twists and till the last there are only twists. Kat and Bips also have surprising roles which I would not like to give out.The only thing I can say that the devilish streak that Kat tries to wear looks extremely sexy on her.The moment when she purrs "You bet" into Akshay's ears in such an arousing tone is something Kat could only do. Her gorgeous,sweet,sexy but BAD image that she portrays in this movie is marvelous.Bips rocks as usual and this she gets intimate with Saif in many scenes.I wonder was it the body double or herself.But what does it matter to Saif.The Dober Man was all in all himself in every hot scene and he seems to be getting more and more comfortable day by day.
The stunts and actions are great.Abbas Mastaan has done his job well.The movie has good pace.The comedy by Anil Kapoor is well digestable. Johnny Lever rocks in the one scene he comes in.
The songs rock.Race theme songs are perfect for the dance mix loves while Zara zara leaves you panting and high.

The USP that I found in the movie was the theme that it showed.It was very realistic in the sense that here they show how evil is defeated through its own game plan. How the evil away with its deed but when it is treated in its own manner it crumbles like a house of cards.


Watch the movie if you haven't.Worth watching and alot to learn.If you have watched the movie with your nagging girlfriend who keeps adoring Saif and criticizing Kat and Bips and munching popcornsloudly,I suggest watch it alone again,on DVD or in the multiplex thats your choice. But do watch it.Its a nice movie.

INTERVIEW WITH TAPASEE/TAAPSEE PANNU: Pantaloon's Femina Miss Fresh Face and Beautiful Skin



After much anticipation and a lot of hard work,here it is I have finally been able to bring to u a small interview which I did with Miss Tapasee Pannu,the finalist of Pond's Femina Miss India 2008 Beauty pageant and also the proud winner of the two titles : Pond's Femina Miss Beautiful Skin and Pantaloon's Femina Miss Fresh Face. Let me tell you this girl has been very busy off late,apart from the hectic shooting schedules to beauty pageants,she also has a four year Engineering degree to cover. Ok without any further wastage of time, I present here the interview with Tapasee Pannu. Just see in what hurry she had to finish writing the answers and I tend to write it as it is so as to preserve originality. I have decoded it later in brackets for the lesser mortals to understand.

Me> Congratulations Tapsi,on your winning the two titles at PFMI'08,so how are you feeling now?
Tapsi.> gr8, atleast i dint cum bak empty handed. i got 2 really imp sub titles n m happy fr it.
(Great,atleast I didn't come back empty handed,I got two really important sub titile and I I am very happy for it.)

Me.> Tell us a little about your experience at PFMI Contest.
Tapsi.> It was an interesting xperience... full of ups n downs.... thr were days wen i was really
happy n thr were days wen i felt like cumin bak, leavin everythin.we had 14 xperts to
train us n no doubt it was a gr8 learnin xperience.d most imp thing was, dat v had 2 live n
adjust wid 28 strangers.grls who nt only came frm diffrnt parts of d country n d world bt
also frm diffrnt kinds of backgrnd.so in all its an xperience to treasure.
(It was an interesting experience,full of ups and downs.There were days when I was really happy and there were days when I felt like coming back,leaving everything.We had 14 experts to train us and no doubt it was a great learning experience,the most important was that we had to live and adjust with 28 strangers.Girls who not only came from different parts of the country and the world but also from different kinds of background. So in all its an experience to treasure.)

Me.>Sounds interesting indeed.Are you happy now?
Tapsi>m happy fr what i got, il b happier if v get d international crowns back, nly den il believe dat grls who were chosen over many others were actually worthed, coz at d end of d day nothin is more imp than gettin d crowns back.
(I am happy for what I got,I will be happier if we get the international crowns back,only then I will believe that girls who were chosen over many others were actually worth it,because at the end of the day nothing is more important than getting the crown back.)
Me.>That was quite philosophical indeed.So when did it strike you that you wanted to be a model after being in a very traditional Engineering College?
Tapsi>i always like to try diffrnt things in my life dat is why m always keen on doin everythin
dats nt xpected out of me.i luv being unpredictable.and whats more unpredictable than
goin fr d biggest pageant of d country while studyin fr one of d toughest degree.
(I always like to try different things in my life that is why I am always keen on doing everything that is not expected out of me.I love being unpredictable and what more unpredictable than going for the biggest pageant of the country while studying for one of the toughest degree.)

Me.>Truly indeed.A very inspiring message.That reminds me of the fact that Priyanka Chopra was a Computer Science and Engineering student too before she became Miss World but she discontinued it later.You almost repeated the same feat.But I guess you shall complete your degree.Anyways was it difficult convincing your parents?
Tapsi>it was difficult initially wen i started modellin bt wid my success n d output of my wrk, de
were pretty convinced and by the time of miss india they were e1 more enthu than me

Me.>So how did you begin on your hallowed path of modelling?

industry, i jst went fr gg4 auditions n to my suprise i got selected frm delhi amongst all d
other models who were already in2 dis field since long. after dat i thot of givin it a serious
try, so got my folio made n den thr was no lookin bak.
(As I mentioned before that I had always ended up doing something which isn't expected out of me,same goes for modelling as well.Nothing was pre-planned.I had no support or acquaintances in the industry,I just went for gg4 auditions and to my surprise,I got selected from Delhi amongst all the other models who were into this field since long. After that I thought of giving it a serious try,so got my folio made and then there was no looking back.)

Me.>Eureka! That was surely an icredible discovery.You really belong to that world of glamor.I am sure Engineering is happy of loosing you gradually(a joke). Any obstacles you faced?
Tapsi>d nly obstacle i face is coz of my studies, bt i dnt consider it as an obstacle, its jst a speed
breaker fr me 2 realize dat i need 2 slow down as my focus is my educational career and
not d media world.
(The only obstacle I face is because of my studies,but I don't consider it as an obstacle,its just a speed breaker for me to realize that I need to slow down as my focus is my educational career and not the media world.)
Me.> So how do you feel in this stage of your career?
Tapsi>i dunno if m in frnt or nt bt m happy fr whatevr ive dun in 10 months.m proud of myself.
(I don't know if I am in front or not but I am happy for whatever I have done in 10 months. I am proud of myself)
Me.>What are your passions Tapsi?
Tapsi>apart frm dancin wen i think bout my passion i feel dat 1 noticably diffrnt thing bout me is dat no matter wtevr i do in life, completin it successfully becums my passion.
(Apart from dancing, when I think about my passion I feel that one noticeably different thing about me is that no matter whatever I do in life,completeing it successfully becomes my passion)
Me> Thats like a true Leo speaking and thats the way it should be.So what are future plans,Bollywood maybe or modelling to be continued?
Tapsi>my future plans r very clear, il complete my b.tech n den go fr mba, il continue modellin side by side as i hate a monotonous life.

Me.>Any message you would like to give to your admirers and to those who are inspired by you?
dream it, nly den u cn achieve it.
Tapsi>life is too short 2 b wasted in jst thinkin bout doin things n later on regret on d fact dat u cudnt do it. go fr it, live life, king size!

PERSONALITY REVIEW: TAPASEE/TAAPSEE PANNU OR Tapsi


The beautiful figure majestically swung with every beat of music,every expression on her face matching the lyrics and the rhythm of the song leaving the audience in a natural state of awe.The fire in her eyes quenched every thirst among the spectators,the beautiful smile floored them to the ground,well after she finished her performance at the dance competition,the audience and even the judges gaped and could only shout "Tapsi ONCE MORE".... but alas!,to their bitter disappointment.
Tapasee Pannu,better known as 'Tapsi" amongst her friends and peer group,is a third year Engineering student at GTBIT,Rajouri Garden,New Delhi. She shot into the limelight early in her first year when she mesmerized every Engineering College possible in Delhi with her dance performance,during the dance competitions for their individual college festivals. Clearly the signs were indicated that this girl was not meant for the daily grind of being an engineer, and that she was made for more and certainly deserved it.
After a hard time convincing her parents to permit her for taking up modelling as a career,she was successful in a very short time.Soon she was flooded with offers from USI,World Gold Council,Vardhaman,Coca Cola etc and became a whos who of the modelling world.

The next step was obvious...... she was part of the PANTALOON'S FEMINA MISS INDIA CONTEST as top 29 finalists and managed to win laurels there too. She was lauded with Pantaloon's Femina Miss Fresh Face and Safi Femina Miss Beautiful Skin.


Though she did not win the coveted titles,yet this is a big achievement for her and there seems to be alot to achieve in the future.Even then I wonder is this a loss for her or for India as a whole.It would be definitely a loss for India if the winners don't come back with the international crowns.Surely this girl next door has come a long way ahead to becoming a glamor goddess.And all this in less than 10 months.
